Windows install & update guide

Spiralday for Windows 1.3 is out. Arrange Planner builds a planner step by step with real pages, All Pages shows every page at a glance, and tasks can now remind you. You can also keep the planner above other windows or fold it down to just today. What changed is in the update history (Korean). Since 1.0, every program file in the installer carries our company signature, so Smart App Control no longer blocks the install.

  • Already using it? — Nothing to do. The app downloads the new version by itself and shows ‘Restart to Update’ on the paper (Updates)
  • Did Smart App Control block the install? — Get the new version with the button below, and delete any installer you downloaded before (Smart App Control)
  • Seeing ‘Windows protected your PC’? — Click More info → Run anyway. Check that the publisher is LeanAgileHungry . INC (Why does it appear?)
  • Edge warns before downloading? — It can happen with 1.0 too, because the file is new. Choose ‘Keep’ to download it (Edge warning)
  • Your records stay — Whether you update, reinstall or uninstall, your planners remain (Records)

What's in Windows 1.3

  • Arrange Planner — Choose start, days, week and month, inserts, cover and preview one step at a time, with real pages. Open it from the shelf's + button.
  • All Pages — The palette's magnifier or G shows every page at a glance; click a cell to go there.
  • Task reminders — Right-click a task › Remind me… and pick a time. It rings as a Windows notification while the app is running.
  • Always on Top · Fold — The 📌 and ⌃ buttons on the paper (Ctrl+Alt+T · F) keep the planner above other windows or fold it to a small strip.
  • Monthly page — A decorated calendar page opens where the home used to be (M · Ctrl+0). Each day shows its tasks · D-days · painted hours, and the month plan on the right holds goals · habits · notes.
  • Stats — The old home's stats · calendar · D-days now open from [Stats] on each book card on the shelf.
  • Link box — The MEMO area is now a rounded link-card box. Paste an address and the site's picture and title show as a card; click it to open it in your browser. Your old memos move over by themselves.
  • Memo pads · stickers — Stick memo pads in the empty space to the left of the planner window (‘Always Shown’ at the top, that day's ‘Today's Notes’ at the bottom). Jot something down with Win+Alt+N even while you're in another app, and decorate the paper with memo pads and stickers. Right-click to turn a task into a memo pad and back.
  • Inserts · diary — In Settings → Arrange Planner, look at the week and month layouts, turn off weekends or days off, and add week plan · notes (lined · grid · plain) · diary · month plan inserts. Text fits the lines of inserts and memo pads, and you can write by hand with the pen or the writing pen (P).
  • Cover editor — Collage up to 8 photos, add a title and text boxes on a color · pattern · photo background, and stick on memo pads and stickers to decorate the cover. A single photo makes a photo cover too.
  • Date styles — In Settings → Planner → Edit Planner, choose how the DATE looks for each planner. Bookmarks (Ctrl+B) and weeks starting on Sunday are there too.
  • Screen Lock — Turn on Settings → Screen Lock, and opening Spiralday asks for Windows Hello (PIN · face · fingerprint). It locks after a set idle time or when you lock your PC, and Ctrl+L locks it right away. It starts off.
  • English — Choose English in Settings → Language · 언어, and the paper window · palette · settings · menus switch to English. On English Windows, the installer is in English too. What you've written stays as it is.

1.Installing for the first time

  1. Download — Get Spiralday-Setup.exe with the button above. If Edge says the file ‘isn't commonly downloaded’, do this.
  2. Run — Open the file you downloaded. If a ‘Windows protected your PC’ window appears, click More info → Run anyway. If the publisher shown is LeanAgileHungry . INC, it's a file we signed (Why does it appear?).
  3. Install — Click ‘Install’. It installs for your account only, without administrator rights, and adds shortcuts to the desktop and the Start menu. When it's done, click ‘Finish’ and it opens right away.

2.Already using it — updates

The app gets new versions by itself. It checks when it starts, and once a day while it's open.

  1. When the download is done, a ‘Version … is ready’ card appears at the top of the paper.
  2. Click Restart to Update. It saves what you were writing, switches to the new version and opens again. It only takes a moment.

If you clicked ‘Later’, it installs quietly when you close the app. It won't reopen by itself then, so open it once more.
If you shut down your PC with the app still open, it doesn't install. The card shows again the next time you start it — click it then.

On 0.9? — New versions arrive with the same card. If the card hasn't shown up yet, give it a little time. To switch right away, get the new version with the download button and install it over the old one. Your records stay.

See your version · check now — Settings (Ctrl+, or the gear on the palette) → About → Check for Updates.

Since 1.0, updates come from spiralday.com and only ones with our company signature get installed. The first time you open the app after an update, it shows ‘What's new’ once; if you missed it, find it again in Settings → News.

3.Reinstalling

You only need this when: the app won't open, the update card keeps coming back after restarting, or you see a notice that part of the app was blocked.

  1. Back up (recommended) — Save your planner to a file with Settings → Data → Export Backup…. It saves the planner that's open right now, so if you have several, do it for each one. If the app won't open, skip this.
  2. Close the app — Close every Spiralday window. If you install while it's open, the installer closes the app at once and you might lose the last letter or two you typed.
  3. Download and run — Run a freshly downloaded file from this page's download button. No need to uninstall first — it installs right over your current Spiralday.
  4. Check — When the app opens, make sure your planners are all there.

Don't use an old Spiralday-Setup.exe you downloaded before. The installer doesn't compare versions, so an old file takes you back to the old version. Always download a fresh one from this page.

4.Frequently asked questions

A ‘Windows protected your PC’ window appears

That's Windows SmartScreen. New files and new certificates can show this window until enough people have downloaded them. Version 1.0, which carries our company signature, does too for a while at first.

Click More info to see the publisher. If it's LeanAgileHungry . INC, click Run anyway. If the publisher is ‘Unknown publisher’ or another name, don't run it — download it again from this page.

Edge says the file ‘isn't commonly downloaded’

Edge shows this warning when not many people have downloaded a new file yet. It's separate from our company signature, so it can show up with 1.0 too. It fades as more people download it.

In the downloads list, click … next to the file → Keep → Show more → Keep anyway to download it. (Button names can differ a little between Edge versions.)

It says ‘Smart App Control’ blocked it · it won't install at all

Smart App Control in Windows 11 blocks unsigned files. The 0.9 installer contained a few files without a signature, so the install could be blocked on PCs with this feature on. Since 1.0, every program file in the installer is signed, so it's no longer blocked.

  1. Delete the installer you downloaded before.
  2. Download it again with this page's download button and install. If 0.9 is installed, it installs right over it (your records stay).

If it's still blocked, please don't turn off Smart App Control — let us know instead (how to reach us). There's no way to allow a single app, so turning it off removes that protection for the whole PC. You can check whether it's on in Windows Security → App & browser control → Smart App Control settings.

Do my records stay when I update or reinstall?

Yes. Your planners are saved apart from the app, in the %APPDATA%\Spiralday folder. Updating, reinstalling and uninstalling don't delete this folder.

If you use sync, it carries on as long as it's the same PC and the same Windows account.

How do I back up?
  • One planner at a time — Settings → Data → Export Backup… saves the planner that's open into a single file. You can open it with Import Backup… in Spiralday on another PC or a Mac too.
  • Everything — Close the app, then copy the Spiralday folder that opens from Settings → Data → Show in File Explorer to somewhere like a USB drive.
  • Automatic Backups — Once a day when the app starts, it copies all your planners and keeps the last 14 days. In Settings → Data → Automatic Backups, you can bring a day's planner back as a new planner.
Where can I see my version?

Settings (Ctrl+, or the gear on the palette) → About. Check for Updates on the same screen checks right away.

I want to move to another PC

Open the file you saved with Export Backup… on your current PC using Import Backup… in Spiralday on the new PC. If you use sync, choose Settings → Sync → ‘Join Another Device’ on the new PC and it syncs by itself.

If you move the whole data folder to another PC, your planners come along, but that PC can't read the sync connection. Connect again with your recovery code or ‘Add Device’.

It won't install on a work or school PC

Rules set by whoever manages the PC can block installs. Please ask the person who manages your PC.

Does it work on Windows 10?

Yes, it works on Windows 10 · 11 (64-bit). Smart App Control exists only on Windows 11.

I want to uninstall the app

Windows Settings → Apps → Installed apps (on Windows 10, Apps & features) → Spiralday → Uninstall. Your planner folder (%APPDATA%\Spiralday) is left in place. To delete your records too, delete that folder yourself. If you use sync, first choose Settings → Sync → ‘Turn Off on This Computer’ in Spiralday, then uninstall.

Downloaded update installers (about 110 MB) may remain in %LOCALAPPDATA%\spiralday-web-updater. You can delete that folder too.
